Arrest for assault– Alice Springs

Police

A man is in custody and his wife is in hospital after police were called to a domestic disturbance last night.

Police were called to a residence in Carruthers Crescent just before midnight after complaints of a disturbance. Police found the woman with lacerations to her head arms and legs after allegedly being assaulted by her partner. Police were told the woman and her husband were involved in an argument during which the victim was hit with a metal chair and assaulted with an iron bar.

The woman's 34-year-old husband was arrested at the scene and the woman was taken to Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.

Two police members were assaulted while taking the man into custody. He is expected to be interviewed later today.
