Arrest - Aggravated Assault Nightcliff

At about 9:30pm last night police arrested a 26-year-old man after being alerted to an aggravated assault incident on Casuarina Drive in Nightcliff.

The offender is alleged to have assaulted two men with a metal baton covered in leather at the Beachfront Hotel at about 9:00pm last night. The offender was allegedly involved in an altercation with a 23-year-old male before striking him a number of times to the head with the weapon.

A 21-year-old man intervened in an attempt to restrain the offender and was subsequently also struck in the head.

The 23-year-old man was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital with facial injuries.

The offender was then escorted out of the licensed premises where he proceeded to produce a knife and make several threats before fleeing the scene to a nearby vehicle.

Members attended the scene and apprehended the man in his vehicle a short time later. He was conveyed to Darwin Watch House where he produced a positive blood alcohol content reading of 0.099 percent. He is expected to be charged with:

Aggravated assault
Possession/use/carry a controlled weapon at night
Drive with a medium blood alcohol content
