Police

NT Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in relation to aggravated assault and stealing offences in Darwin overnight.

On Wednesday 29 September, it is alleged the 24-year-old victim and a friend were drinking in Darwin's CBD when they decided to walk home at about 1:00 am. While crossing the road at the Knuckey and Smith Street intersection, a white Nissan Patrol ran a red light and turned onto Smith Street. The parties were involved in a brief argument and the victim and his friend continued walking down Smith Street.

A short time later, the victim was approached by two males from the Nissan Patrol. The 26-year old offender punched the victim to the head, causing him to fall to the ground and proceeded to kick him before fleeing towards Shadford Lane.

The victims watch, wallet and mobile phone were stolen during the attack.

St John Ambulance attended the scene and conveyed the man to Royal Darwin Hospital.

The offender has been charged with assaulting a person who suffered serious harm and robbery. He is due to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court this afternoon.

NT Police would like to acknowledge the considerable assistance received from members of the public, which assisted in the identification and ultimate arrest of the offender.
