Arrest after Cannabis seizure – Alice Springs

Police

A 29-year-old man is in custody after police found almost 400grams of Cannabis at his home in Alice Springs.

Members of the Drug Intelligence Unit, Dog Operations Unit and the Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk executed a search warrant on the man's home today and seized 17 bags of Cannabis .

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Dash said the street value of the drugs, if sold in Alice Springs, was around $20,000, however if sold in remote Aboriginal communities they could be worth around $80,000.

"This seizure was as a result of information supplied to us by the public and once again reflects the value of good co-operation between police and the community," Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Dash said.

"While we are still unsure at this stage if the Cannabis was destined for remote communities, it is certainly fair to say that that is where a large amount of drugs are trafficked, and police will continue to target both drug-running and grog-running into communities."

Any member of the public with information pertaining to the sale of Cannabis should phone police on 131 444.
