Aggravated assault - Leanyer

Casuarina detectives have charged a 66-year-old man in relation to a serious assault in Leanyer overnight.

It is alleged the offender returned to his residence after consuming alcohol at another location before a verbal altercation ensued with a 46-year-old man, also an occupant of the home.

The victim is alleged to have kicked the offender's door open in an effort to enter his room after power had been cut off.

The offender has then hit the man with an ornamental samurai sword to his neck.

The third occupant of the house, a 39-year-old man, immediately performed first aid and alerted authorities to the incident.

St John Ambulance attended the house and conveyed the injured man to hospital where he has since received surgery and remains in a stable condition.

Casuarina police attended the scene and conveyed the offender to the Darwin Watch House where he was later charged with;

Unlawfully cause serious harm
Aggravated assault
Negligently causing serious harm

He is has since been bailed to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on 15 July.
