Aggravated Assault – Cullen Bay

A woman has a suspected fractured jaw after a vicious attack in Cullen Bay overnight. The 25-year-old woman was completing her evening walk when she was attacked not far from her home at approximately 7.50pm. The offender allegedly pulled the victim to the ground and repeatedly punched her to the head and body. Two off-duty police officers heard the victims' screams and attended the scene of the attack, with one officer giving chase as the offender decamped on foot. The other officer remained with the victim and secured the crime scene. Shortly after, the alleged offender was spotted in the water in Cullen Bay. With the assistance of bystanders, the off-duty member launched a canoe and retrieved the offender from the water. Darwin General Duties arrived in time to take the offender into custody. Territory Duty Superintendent Louise Jorgensen praised the work of all involved. "Excellent work by all concerned. The prompt action of the off-duty members and bystanders was instrumental in the apprehension of the offender in this unprovoked attack.
