Aggravated assault and stealing - Darwin City

Police

Police are calling for public assistance after a 24-year-old man was assaulted on Smith Street over night.

It is alleged the man and a friend were drinking in Darwin's CBD when they decided to walk home at about 1:00am this morning. While crossing the road at the Knuckey and Smith Street intersection a white vehicle; possibly a Toyota Prado turned onto Smith Street, allegedly running a red light. The parties were involved in a brief argument and the victim and his friend continued walking down Smith Street.

A short time later the victim was approached by two males allegedly from the white vehicle. One of the men punched the victim to the head causing him to fall to the ground and proceeded to kick him before fleeing towards Shadford Lane.

The victims watch, wallet and mobile phone were stolen during the attack.

The offenders are described as follows:

Male, Aboriginal appearance, about 185 cm tall, slim to med build, shorts, and white shirt with a red collar or red on the shirt, white shoes.

Male of Aboriginal appearance male, thin build, approximately 172 cm, short brown hair, black shirt, shorts no shoes.

St John Ambulance attended the scene and conveyed the man to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Police attended and conducted patrols of the area, however, were unable to locate the offenders.
