Aggravated assault and assault police - Gunbulanya

A 22-year-old man will face court in relation to aggravated assault offences, after an incident at the Gunbulanya Sports Club on Friday night.

The man is alleged to have initially been involved in a domestic disturbance at the Sports Club at about 8:30 pm on Friday before security staff intervened. The offender is then alleged to have punched a 32-year-old security officer to the head before being ejected from the premises.

A short time later the offender returned to the club and attempted to re enter before being asked to leave by security personnel. The offender became highly agitated and after a brief verbal altercation he punched a second security officer to the face before leaving the area.

Police arrived on the scene a short time later and spoke with witnesses and the victims before locating the offender at Arrkuluk Camp at about 8:45 pm.

Upon apprehension the offender struggled and broke free before punching a 29-year-old male police officer to the face. The man continued to strike the police officer to the upper torso causing him them to fall to the ground where a struggle ensued.

A 26-year-old female police officer intervened and both officers restrained the man before placing him in the back of a police vehicle.

He was conveyed to Gunbulanya Police Station where he was charged in relation to the following offences:

Assault Police
3x Aggravated assault
Resist Arrest
He will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today.
