Police are investigating an incident in which a 25-year-old man was assaulted by a group of three men in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim told police he was working at an office in Hartley Street around 1am when he went outside for a cigarette and to check on his vehicle which was parked in the Post Office car park.

The man was approached by two males who asked him for cigarettes. The man gave them cigarettes, however they then demanded more. The pair were then joined by another male and the victim was assaulted. The group then stole his wallet and fled the area. The victim attended the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.

Police investigations are continuing and Comfits of the offenders are expected to be released later today.

All three offenders are described as being of Aboriginal appearance and in their late teens. One was wearing a white t-shirt and was of medium build and approximately 180cm tall. The second offender was also of medium build, 185cm tall and wearing a black t-shirt with a coloured motif and a black baseball cap, while the third male was of solid build, 160cm tall wearing dark clothing.

Police are viewing CCTV footage of the area and are asking anyone with information to phone police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
