Aggravated assault - Alawa

Police

Police are seeking public assistance after a 53-year-old woman was assaulted in Alawa early last night.

It is alleged the woman was walking her dog along Lakeside Drive at about 7.20pm when she was approached from behind by an unknown male. She was grabbed around the neck and thrown to the ground. Fortunately the victim managed to fight off the attacker by biting him on the right forearm before he fled the scene.

Police were called by a nearby resident who heard the woman screaming.

The victim was not injured during the incident.

The alleged offender is described as a 13 to 15-year-old male of Aboriginal appearance, about 157 centimetres tall, slim build and was wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.

Casuarina Police are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Senior Sergeant Shaun Furniss urges anyone who may have witnessed the attack to contact police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

"This incident occurred along a busy road in the early evening, we believe some one driving past or walking on Lakeside Drive may have witnessed the attack take place

"This is a timely reminder to be aware of your surroundings, the Northern Territory Police strive to keep people safe and need your assistance to assist in identifying this individual" he said.
