Youth Crime Unit – Unlawful Entry

Police

The Youth Crime Unit began its Christmas school holiday Operation Compadre over the weekend with Friday being the last day of the school year.

A 15-year-old male was arrested and charged after he allegedly unlawfully entered a residence in Wagaman during the early hours of Friday morning.

It is alleged that he stole keys which were to vehicles at the location, and then proceeded to steal a white Toyota Camry which he used for a short time before returning it to the residence and stealing a black Toyota Hilux.

The Hilux was then allegedly used in a robbery later on Friday where a second 15-year-old male was chased by the offender who stole the males bicycle whilst armed with a knife.

The abandoned vehicle was later located at Hungry Jacks, Casuarina, with the stolen bicycle in the tray of the vehicle.

The 15-year-old alleged offender was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle and driving a motor vehicle while unlicensed. He was released on bail and is due to appear in the Darwin Youth Justice Court on 31 December 2009.

The Youth Crime Unit will be out in force throughout the entire school holidays, patrolling 'hotspots' for youth crime and targeting outstanding offenders and persons of interest.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Jordan said this is a timely reminder for the public to be aware that they can also assist in reducing property and youth related crime.

"You can assist by securing doors whilst sleeping and not leaving valuable items such as phones and wallet in view of possible offenders," he said.

He also urges anyone who witnesses any suspicious activity to call police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.nt.crimestoppers.com.au/.
