Police from Minjilang Police Station brought the 39 year old French national and his yacht back to Minjilang safely this afternoon just after 2 pm.

Acting Superintendent Travis Wurst commended Minjilang Police and local community member Rob Hunt for his assistance in ensuring the rescue effort was a success.

"Without the assistance of local fishing guide Rob Hunt, who offered his services to the Minjilang Police, the rescue effort would have been significantly delayed. Consequently, the yacht and its male skipper have now been successfully rescued," he said.

"The man is dehydrated and fatigued and currently being assessed at the local clinic however he otherwise believed to be in good health," said Superintendent Wurst
