Police are appealing for witnesses in relation to an alleged assault that occurred early this morning in the city area.
At about 1.45 a 21-year-old man and his 18-year-old female friend were returning to their hotel on Cavenagh Street when they were approached by two males near the corner of Edmund and Smith Streets.
The males asked for cigarettes and then allegedly punched the 21-year-old victim. Another two males joined in and struck the victim's head with a bottle before stealing his wallet and mobile phone. All four males then ran off through an adjacent car park next to Rush Clothing Store.
The victim suffered bruising and cuts but did not require medical treatment.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, or has information that could assist police in identifying the alleged offenders, to call 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
