Police have resolved the disturbance that occurred yesterday, in Angurugu peacefully after discussions with community elders.

Groote Eylandt police remained at the location last night and conducted patrols after a disturbance at approximately 5:00 pm yesterday, involving several people.

Police spoke with community elders today, in an attempt to negotiate a peaceful resolution of the situation.

Approximately 300 people attended the Angurugu sports oval today to resolve the issue, and with the presence of police and the community elders, a mutual agreement was reached between the parties.

Members will continue to patrol the area to ensure community safety and calm.
