Vessel in Distress – Coburg Peninsula - 4389219

Police

Police received a report yesterday afternoon at around 4.30pm from Coast Watch that a yacht was in distress in the vicinity of Oxley Island off the Coburg Peninsula.

It is alleged that there is one male on board the boat, believed to be French national, who appears fatigued but in good health. The main mast of the boat is broken and it is believed that the yacht has been adrift for two days.

Supplies have been provided to the male on board the vessel which is currently anchored safely behind Oxley Island.

Police from Minjilang Police Station departed early this morning to assist with getting the boat and the yachtsman back to shore safely and expect to be back later this afternoon.
