Vehicles stolen and burnt - 4377019 - 4376995

Police

Palmerston Police are investigating two vehicle fires that occurred early this morning in Gunn and Marlow Lagoon.

At about 12.15 am police responded to a report of a vehicle on fire outside a residence in Latram Court, Gunn. Police and Fire and Rescue officers attended and on arrival located a white Holden Commodore sedan fully alight.

The blaze was extinguished but the vehicle was completely destroyed.

A short time later the owner discovered that a second vehicle had been stolen, a Toyota Landcruiser. This vehicle was found on fire about 1.15 am near the recreation area at Marlow Lagoon and was extinguished by Fire and Rescue officers.

Both vehicles had been left unlocked and keys to the Landcruiser were left under the driver's floor mat.

"These offences could have been avoided if the vehicles had been locked and police strongly encourage all members of the public to be security conscious - remain vigilant and lock your vehicles and homes, "said Superintendent Wayne Jenkinson.

Anyone who has information in relation to these incidents is urged to call police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
