On arrival police located the Toyota Landcruiser Troop Carrier submerged under water near the down stream boat ramp.
A number of crocodiles were located near the vehicle.
Police arranged for the use of a local government grader, and support from Kakadu Park Rangers and use of their vessel. Jabiru and Oenpelli Police along with Park Rangers coordinated the recovery of the vehicle and animal control.
It is believed the owner of the vehicle a woman from New South Wales drove down the boat ramp mistaking it for Cahill's crossing.
Brevet Sergeant Ben Higgins said "members of the public need to be reminded that when travelling through the NT it is their responsibility to research the area and be aware of the extreme road conditions, especially that of remote areas".
"All water crossings should be considered extremely dangerous and exception care should be taken to avoid similar incidents such as these, especially considering the number and size of crocodiles that inhabit remote water ways".
