At approximately 4:40 pm police received a report from the driver that his road train prime mover was on fire, 5kms south of the Barkly Homestead.

It is alleged that the vehicle was travelling along when the driver noticed flames.

The vehicle was a Prime Mover with three refrigerated trailers which were empty and also had over 2 000 litres of diesel fuel on board.

The driver was able to disconnect two of the trailers saving them from any fire damage, however the first trailer and prime mover were totally destroyed.

Total damage is approximately $450 000. The surrounding grass caught on fire resulting in a large scrub fire beside the highway which was extinguished by the Bushfire NT officers.
