Update #1 - Plane Crash - Batchelor

Police

Police were called to the Batchelor airstrip this afternoon after a report that a light plane had crashed at the end of the runway.

It appears the 43-year-old trainee pilot of a Cessna 182 single engine plane was attempting to land the plane when it was caught by a cross wind. The plane slid 250 metres before crashing in the bush at the end of the runway.

Police and Fire crews as well as staff from Batchelor Clinic attended the scene. The pilot, who was the only occupant of the plane, was taken to Batchelor Clinic where he was treated for minor injuries and allowed to leave.

The aircraft will be inspected by the Air Transport Safety Bureau.
