A 26-year-old male remains under guard at Royal Darwin Hospital after an unlawful entry that occurred at a school early this morning.

It is alleged that the male entered the canteen at Darwin High School at approximately 3:00 am, however fled the scene when he was disturbed by a security guard that was responding to the alarm.

The offender was seen by the security guard to jump over a school fence that backed onto a cliff.

Police, Fire and Rescue, St Johns Ambulance and the NT Emergency Service Vertical Rescue Team attended, locating the male at the base of the cliff.

He was retrieved and conveyed by St John Ambulance to Royal Darwin Hospital with a suspected broken leg.

Investigations to determine exactly what was stolen from the school are continuing.
