Unlawful entry arrests–Alice Springs

Police

Four teenagers have been arrested following a number of unlawful entries at an Alice Springs School.

Bradshaw Primary School was unlawfully entered four times in the past week and nine laptops were stolen.

The first break-in occurred around 4pm on Saturday afternoon. Thieves broke into the school's art room and stole a quantity of art supplies and soft drinks.

On Monday night police received a report of another break-in at the school. In this instance offenders smashed the glass door to the assembly area before breaking into a store room and staff room through the ceiling. Nothing was stolen on this occasion.

Then on Tuesday night just before midnight, thieves smashed a glass panel in a door to gain access to the computer room before stealing nine laptop computers.

Just after midnight the thieves allegedly returned and stole three battery chargers for the laptops and vandalised the room. They also unlawfully entered the school canteen and stole a quantity of food and ransacked the school staff room.

Two15-year-old boys were arrested in relation to the Saturday night incident. They will be considered for Youth Diversion. One of the boys was also allegedly responsible for the Monday night incident while the other 15-year-old, together with three more co-offenders, was responsible for the break-ins on Tuesday night.

A 15-year-old and a 16-year-old boy have been charged with unlawful entry of a building at night with intent to commit a crime and stealing in relation to the Tuesday night theft of the laptops. They have been bailed to appear in the Youth Justice Court on February 5.

Further arrests are expected.
