Katherine detectives are investigating the assault of a 38-year-old female at her residence on Pearce Street in Katherine on Saturday.

It is alleged that the female was walking along Railway Terrace into Pearce Street at approximately 2:30 am when she noticed she was being followed by an unknown male. Shortly after she arrived home safely and went to bed.

At approximately 3:20 am the female woke after realising someone was in her room. It is alleged that a struggle occurred between the female and an unknown male in which the female received a laceration to her leg before fighting off the offender and contacting police.

She later received medical attention and was not admitted to hospital.

The Katherine Investigation Unit is seeking assistance from the public to identify a male believed to have been involved in the incident. He is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, approximately 170 cm tall, dark hair and of thin build.
