Two car crash –Darwin – 4387345

Two people were injured following a two-car collision on the Stuart Highway south of Darwin last night.
Police received a report just before 6pm that a Toyota Aurion and a Mazda hatchback had collided near the Cox Peninsula Road turnoff. Witnesses told police the male driver of the Toyota was travelling north when he overtook a truck in an overtaking lane. However, the driver failed to complete the manoeuvre by the time the overtaking lane ended and he crashed into the path of a southbound Mazda hatch.
The 17-year-old male driver of the Mazda and his 16-year-old female passenger were injured in the crash and taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital where they remain in a stable condition.
The 39-year-old male driver of the Toyota and his 44-year-old male passenger escaped with minor injuries.
Traffic was diverted around the scene for several hours. Police investigations are continuing.
