Traffic Pursuit

Police

Katherine Police were involved in a brief traffic pursuit that reached speeds of up to 110 kilometres per hour this morning.

The driver of a green Mitsubishi van failed to comply with police direction to stop at about 2.30 am this morning and accelerated along Giles Street in Katherine. The vehicle conducted a u-turn about 12 kilometres from the Katherine Central Business District before continuing inbound on Gorge Road and turning into private property where the vehicle became stuck in rubbish and wire in bush land.

The driver then fled into bush land and was unable to be located. Five passengers aged 17, 17, 23, 24 and 31-years-old were apprehended and several were held in protective custody as a result of their intoxication.

Further investigations are continuing and police are confident of identifying the driver and will be speaking with him in the near future.
