A 20-year-old male was apprehended on the Stuart Highway in Bees Creek at 1.02 am this morning after police observed the vehicle he was driving travelling at 180km/h. The man will be summonsed to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court at a later date.

At approximately 1:30 am this morning, police intercepted a white Suzuki Swift on Gregory Terrace in Marrakai. Whilst conducting a road side breath test police observed a loaded .22 calibre rifle on the front seat. The fire arm was seized and driver was arrested and conveyed to Darwin City Watch House where he returned a positive blood alcohol reading of 0.110 percent. Enquiries are continuing in relation to the firearm offences.

Police attempted to apprehend a white Toyota Corolla travelling on the Stuart Highway in Coolalinga this morning. At approximately 2.36 am the vehicle was sighted travelling at 135km/h, the driver failed to comply with police directions and subsequently a high speed pursuit occurred, where speeds in excess of 160km/h were attained. The vehicle travelled on a number of roads in the Bees Creek and Darwin River area, before police terminated the pursuit due to the risk it posed to members, the public and the driver of the stolen vehicle.
