Town camp operation –Alice Springs

Police

Police in Alice Springs tipped out 234 litres of grog in a two-day operation targeting illegal drinking in town camps.
Police patrolled almost every camp in and around Alice Springs during the operation, with the largest seizure being 15 thirty-pack cartons of VB at Amoonguna Community.

Thirty eight people were taken into protective custody for being drunk and eight offenders were arrested for various offences including outstanding warrants.

Superintendent Sean Parnell said this was the second operation targeting town camps in as many weeks.

"We'll continue to mount these special operations to stop grog coming into prescribed areas such as the town camps in Alice Springs," Supt Parnell said.

" If we stop the grog getting in we can go a long way to stopping the alcohol-fuelled violence we so often see there now."
