Tourists assaulted – Alice springs - 4396036

Police

Two tourists were assaulted in Alice Springs as they were returning to their accommodation in the early hours of this morning.

The victims - two men aged 29 and 19 - were German Nationals. They told police they were walking back to the Haven backpackers Resort in Larapinta Drive just after 1.30am when they were approached by a male asking for cigarettes. When they told him they didn't have any, two other males approached and the group began punching the two male victims to the head. The tourists managed to run to the hostel but the offenders followed and the attack continued in the car park with one of the tourists being punched and kicked to the head when he was knocked to the ground.

The victims eventually managed to get into the foyer and close the glass doors which were then smashed by rocks thrown by the offenders. A Hyundai Getz also had it's passenger side window smashed by the offenders who then fled the area.

The two victims suffered bruising to the face in the attack and were treated by St John Ambulance officers.

Police are calling for anyone who may have witnessed the assault to come forward. Anyone with information should phone police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
