Three vehicle crash – Bagot Road

Police

Three people were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital last night following a three vehicle crash on Bagot Road near the intersection of Nemarluk Drive. Police, Fire and Rescue and St John Ambulance officers attended the crash at around 10.15 pm.

It appears that a white Triton utility was travelling north down Bagot Road in the middle lane when a white Toyota Corolla entered Bagot Road from Nemarluk Drive and turned left into the middle lane when the utility collided with the Corolla.

The utility was then driven over the median strip into the south-bound lane of Bagot Road colliding with a silver Mitsubishi Lancer which had just entered the right turning lane to turn into Nemarluk Drive.

Occupants from the Toyota Corolla and the Mitsubishi Lancer had to be cut free and conveyed by St John Ambulance to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Five lanes of Bagot Road were closed for several hours until the scene was cleared and investigations conducted into the cause of the crash.

The 29-year-old male driver of the utility was arrested at the scene for the purposes of a breath analysis and later returned a blood alcohol content reading of 0.137 percent. He was later released to be summonsed to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court.

The 27-year-old male driver of the Corolla and the 17-year-old male passenger were taken to hospital along with the 25-year-old female driver of the Lancer. The 27-year-old male remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Northern Traffic Operations members are investigating and believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors.
