Territory Stations Fly The White Ribbon Day Flag

Police

As White Ribbon Day approaches, a number of Police and Fire Stations across the Territory will be flying the White Ribbon Day flag.

NT Police Acting Commissioner and Acting CEO for NT Fire and Rescue Service Bruce Wernham said the flags assist in supporting the international campaign to raise awareness for the elimination of violence against women,

"Violence against women is tragically, all too common place here in the Territory and continuing all efforts to protect women from violence and putting offenders before the courts remains our priority.

"Already this financial year, Police have initiated over 700 Domestic Violence Orders, the vast majority being to protect women - that's around seven women per day and seven women too many across the Territory requiring protection", Acting Commissioner Wernham said.

White Ribbon Day itself is on 25 November and aims to raise International awareness for the elimination of violence against women.

This years 'my oath' campaign calls on all 'Aussie' men to swear an oath:
never to commit violence against women;
never to excuse violence against women; and
never to remain silent about violence against women.
