Suspicious Vehicle Fires - 4341942 & 4341945

Police

Police are investigating two suspicious vehicle fires that occurred over night.

Just before 1:00 am Police and Fire and Rescue crews were called out to a white Toyota Hilux utility in flames in front of a Casuarina Drive unit complex.

The interior of the vehicle sustained extensive fire damage to the estimated value of $2000. It appears the fire was ignited by a piece of paper that was forced into the petrol tank and lit.

In the second incident a 2005 Mazda 6 sedan was set alight in a unit complex car park on Cartwright Street in Coconut Grove. Police and Fire and Rescue crews attended and extinguished the blaze.

It appears petrol was poured over the roof and windscreen of the vehicle and set alight causing approximately $13000 worth of damage.

Police are treating the fires as suspicious and believe there is a possibility they are linked.

Any one who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area or may have further information to help police are urged to call 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
