Major Crime Detectives have charged a 47-year-old male in relation to the suspicious death that occurred on Saturday evening.

It is alleged that a 49-year-old female died in hospital after an altercation occurred between her and the male near the Rapid Creek Bridge on Casuarina Drive at approximately 3:50 pm on Saturday.

The male was charged with murder and remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court today.

Police are urging members of the public who may have been in the vicinity at the time of the event, in particular a passing male cyclist, to contact them on 131 444.
