Structure Fire – Nightcliff – 4441988

Police

Police are calling for witnesses after a fire broke out at the Phoenix Motel in Nightcliff at approximately 6:30pm yesterday.

Members were travelling along Progress Drive when they were waived down by a member of the public who stated that there was a group of youth in the building.

The building was found to be alight upon initial patrol by members.

Due to a large amount of smoke being emitted from the building, police sectioned off the area to prevent vehicle and pedestrian access.

NT Fire and Rescue personnel attended, extinguished the fire and conducted a search of the premises.

A witness told police that she heard a sound of smashing glass coming from inside the motel just prior to the fire breaking out and when she went to investigate the noise, she observed two youths exiting the building.

Police are urging anyone else who may have been in the area at the time of the fire and witnessed any suspicious behaviour to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.nt.crimestoppers.com.au
