At about 12:10 am yesterday Police and Fire and Rescue Service personnel were alerted to a house fire in McGuire Court in Moulden.

It is believed the fire started in the rear bedroom and quickly spread to the remainder of the dwelling causing extensive damage.

The dwelling is believed to be occupied however the 59-year-old female occupant had left Darwin for the weekend. No one was at the premises when emergency services arrived.

Fire and Rescue Service members had to force entry through a secured front door to extinguish the fire and render the scene safe.

Police and fire investigators are treating the fire as suspicious and are conducting further investigations.
