Stranded man safe and well

Police

The flight to the rescue was made possible by the crew of pilot Tony Birmingham and air crewman John Costin using Night Vision Goggles (NVG).

NT Police called CareFlight about 4.30 am when emergency services from Pine Creek and Adelaide River were unable to reach the man who was standing on the roof of his vehicle surrounded by flood waters.

The CareFlight crew, accompanied by a Darwin based Territory Response Section member, flew around low cloud using NVG and found the man had scrambled from the roof of his vehicle to an area of high ground. The man's vehicle was washed away by the flood waters.

The man was picked up by the helicopter crew and flown to where local police had gathered. He had minor scratches and bruises but did not require medical treatment and was then conveyed to the Pine Creek Police Station.
