On 18 September a charity auction was held by the Balunu Foundation at the Holiday Inn on the Esplanade and the gloves were auctioned for a price of $4 500. The gloves were secured and later placed into the Litchfield Room at approximately 3.30 am on 19 September.

The next day staff noticed that the gloves had been removed from the Litchfield Room and the matter was reported to police.

Police investigations into the theft of the gloves is on-going and are appealing to anyone who may have information regarding this incident, or the whereabouts of the gloves, to call 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.nt.crimestoppers.com.au/.
