A 46-year-old man has been arrested and charged in relation to a stabbing incident that occurred early yesterday morning outside a block of units in Katherine.

It appears a verbal argument broke out around 4.30 am between the 46-year-old man and his neighbour, a 60-year-old man. The offender then allegedly stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife and left the area.

Police and St John Ambulance officers attended and the victim was conveyed to Katherine Hospital and later flown to Royal Darwin Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The offender was later apprehended and has been charged with unlawfully causing serious harm and other offences and remanded in custody to appear in the Katherine Court today.
