Single vehicle rollover –Alice Springs

A 39-year-old woman is being medivaced to Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition following a single vehicle crash near Yuendumu. The woman was brought into Alice Springs Hospital on Wednesday December 31 with spinal, chest and leg injuries after she was injured in a single vehicle crash on the Napperby Road.

Yuendumu police received a report about 7am on Wednesday morning that a Toyota Corolla hatchback had rolled approximately 60 kilometres east of Yuendumu. The 43-year-old male driver was arrested and found to have been driving with a blood alcohol level of .101 per cent.

He has been charged with numerous offences including driving disqualified, driving without due care, drink driving and bringing, possessing and consuming liquor in a restricted area.

The man told police he and his wife had been drinking at Pulardi Outstation approximately 20 kilometres from Mt Allan before getting into the car and driving towards Mt Allan. He then lost control of the vehicle after it mounted the windrow and rolled. His injured wife was taken to the Mt Allan Health Clinic and later medivaced to Alice Springs.

The man has been remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today (January 2.)
