Shooting man charged– Alice Springs

A 33-year-old man has been charged following an incident in Alice Springs last week in which he was injured.

The man has been in the Alice Springs Hospital since Friday, March 27 when he unlawfully entered a house in Bloomfield Street. Police allege the man was armed with two knives when he confronted police. A police officer shot the man three times after he refused to throw down his weapons and a Taser which was deployed failed to activate.

The man has been under police guard in hospital since the incident, but was remanded in custody by a Magistrate in Alice Springs Court this afternoon.

He has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one of unlawfully entering a dwelling at night whilst armed. He has been remanded for two weeks.
