A woman is in hospital receiving treatment after a man allegedly stabbed her in the eye.

Police received a report of an assault at Trucking Yard Camps just after 1.30 on Monday morning.

The 21-year-old woman told police her husband became angry with her and then stabbed her in the eye with a stick.

Police found the 23-year-old man asleep in the house. He was taken to the Alice Springs Watch House and charged with unlawfully causing serious harm, armed with an offensive weapon and engaging in behaviour contravening a domestic violence order.

The woman was taken to the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.

The man will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court tomorrow.
