A 19-year-old male will be appearing in court today in relation to a robbery with violence incident that occurred in Karama on Saturday morning.
It was established that at approximately 5:20 am on Saturday, the 19-year-old and two other people entered a taxi that was parked at the Caltex Service Station in Karama.
It is alleged that a short struggle occurred between the male and the driver before the driver fled the vehicle and contacted police.
The 19-year-old climbed into the driver's seat and drove off.
Members patrolling the streets of Palmerston witnessed the vehicle driving on James Circuit in Woodroffe.
A short pursuit occurred between the two vehicles, resulting in the taxi being driven into a monsoon drain, before offenders fled the scene on foot.
They were located a short time later in James Circuit and arrested.
He returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.135 percent and was charged with:
Unlawful use of a motor vehicle
Robbery
Assault
Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
Drive medium range blood alcohol content
Fail to obey signal of member
Drive on a public street with undue care.
He was remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court today.
