Alice Springs Police are warning residents are being warned of a scam by a group of Irish nationals.

Police have received a report of a group of men posing as legitimate contractors who attempt to defraud unsuspecting residents.

Superintendent Sean Parnell said the men's practice is to approach a resident and offer the occupant/owner paving service for the driveway.

"The scam occurs when despite the owner refusing the services, the drive ways are paved anyway and demands for money are made, said Spt Parnell

"Their stand over tactics have seen people pay up to or pressured into paying for the work, often up to as much as $4000."

Consumer Affairs contacted police are receiving complaints from a victim of the scam.
Police encourage anyone who has any information on the group to contact them on 131 444 or Crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.
