At 2:00 pm yesterday Katherine Police and Emergency Services were advised about an incident involving two males on a cliff face at Katherine Gorge.
It appears the two men aged 24-years-old were attempting to climb down the escarpment to the gorge, after walking off the Southern Rock hole Walking Trail.
Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife Service rangers were alerted after one of them men fell, approximately 30 metres to rocks below and sustained multiple minor injuries. He was conveyed to Katherine Hospital and later taken to Royal Darwin Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
The other man was reported to be stuck approximately 30 metres up the cliff and Police and Parks and Wildlife Service rangers attended the scene and rescued the second man with a helicopter.
He was conveyed to Katherine Hospital as a precaution.
Police and Emergency Service crews and Parks and Wildlife Service rangers would like to remind the public of the dangers involved in attempting this kind of activity.
Acting Senior Sergeant Tony Henrys said, "the service provided by the staff at Nitmuluk National Park was exceptional and thankfully no person was more seriously injured."
