Recidivist drink drivers busted

Police apprehended four drink drivers around the Darwin suburbs between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 am this morning.

At 2:10 am a 26-year-old male driver was arrested at a random breath testing station on East Point Road and returned a blood alcohol reading of .212 percent, he was also charged with driving whilst disqualified. He has five previous drink driving convictions and six previous convictions for driving whilst disqualified.

Half an hour later police apprehended a 23-year-old male driver on McMillans Road, he returned a blood alcohol reading of .119 percent. He has a previous drink driving conviction.

At 4.15 am a 24 year-old male driver was apprehended on Bagot Road he later returned a blood alcohol content of .122 percent. He also has a previous drink driving conviction.

At 4:40 am the 25-year-old male driver of a Toyota Landcruiser was apprehended in Brittania Crescent in Anula.

He returned a blood alcohol reading of .138 percent he was also charged with driving unlicensed and has two previous drink driving convictions.

Territory Duty Superintendent Rob Farmer said the results returned were quite alarming.

"Not only was the fact that they were over the limit worrying, all four of them have previous convictions for similar offences."

"Police will continue to conduct regular random breath testing stations at a variety of locations at all hours of the day and night, if you are stupid enough to drink and drive we will catch you" he said.
