A police vehicle was extensively damaged at an Alice Springs town camp last night.

Police were called to Hoppy's camp around 8.30pm following a report of a domestic disturbance. While police were out of the caged vehicle investigating the report, two of the vehicle's side windows were smashed by rocks.

When police returned to the vehicle another rock was thrown smashing the windscreen and narrowly missing one of the police officers.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
