Plane crash – Elliott

Police

Two men had a lucky escape when their plane made a forced landing near Elliott last night.

The pair were flying in a Cessna 182 plane on a bore and stock inspection run when the engine experienced mechanical problems. The 34-year-old pilot turned the plane into the wind and made a forced landing on Newcastle Station approximately 40 kilometres east of Elliott.

The pilot was uninjured in the crash but the 35-year-old passenger sustained a cut to his forehead. The crash site was located just before 7pm last night and the men were airlifted to Elliott by helicopter. The passenger was taken to the Elliott Health Clinic where he received stitches to his head wound.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
