Operation Wespe strikes Gunn

Police

Members of the Drug Enforcement Section (DES) have apprehended three people in relation to drug offences, as part of an operation conducted in Palmerston.

Police mounted Operation Wespe in September to target members believed to be part of an established criminal network and have subsequently arrested three males aged 28, 29 and 31.

DES members conducted a search warrant on a house in Gunn, Palmerston yesterday locating:

18 kilograms of cannabis plant material
1.9 grams of Methylamphetamine
A quantity of .338 ammunition
$23 410 cash.

Members also searched a rental vehicle associated with the premises, driven by a 29-year-old Adelaide man, locating almost $152 000 cash.

As a result of the seizure, a 31-year-old male was charged with:

Possess schedule 2 substance in a commercial quantity
Supply cannabis in a commercial quantity
Receive property from the commission of an offence
Possess Methylamphetamine
Possess ammunition without a permit

The 28-year-old male was charged with possess schedule 2 substance in a commercial quantity.

The 29-year-old male was charged with supply cannabis in a commercial quantity and receive property from the commission of an offence.

All three were remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court today.

Eighteen kilograms of Cannabis has a Northern Territory street value of $182,000 if sold by the pound (454gms). If sold in smaller quantities it would realise a potential value of $212,000 which would almost double in remote communities.
