Operation Trafalgar results – Alice Springs

Police

Alice Springs Police Property Crime Reduction Unit members arrested eight people for various crimes during Operational Trafalgar at the weekend.

During the three day operation starting on Friday night, PCRU members arrested eight people for unlawful entries, stealing or traffic infringements.

Members arrested a 29-year-old woman responsible for unlawfully entering an occupied dwelling, stealing a car and burning it.

A 13-year-old boy responsible for a number of unlawful entries on Alice Springs businesses was arrested and charged and further investigations led police to conduct a search warrant on a residential property uncovering stolen property including firearms, ammunition, a small amount of drugs and a large sum of cash.

A 20-year-old woman was arrested for drink driving and leaving the scene of an accident after it is believed she drove through a roundabout, hitting a traffic sign.

Officer in Charge of Operation Trafalgar, Snr Constable Michael Curtiss said the end results proved the operation to be successful.

"We were able to monitor large crowds of youth wandering the streets causing disturbances.

"As a result we only had one unlawful entry over the weekend, which is great news.

"We've also arrested a recidivist property offender and arrested three people on outstanding arrest warrants.

"Overall I would say Operation Trafalgar was successful in its aim to prevent antisocial behaviour and deter youth-related crime."
