Operation Cube 13 -Darwin

Police

Police in Darwin tested 380 drivers overnight in a special Operation targeting impaired drivers.

Operation Cube 13 saw drivers tested for alcohol and drugs. Police manned random breath testing stations in Stuart Park, Darwin CBD and surrounds from 5pm on Friday night to 1am this morning.

Two people were arrested for drink driving, four will be summonsed for low range alcohol readings, unregistered and unlicensed driving, 11 infringement notices were issued, 13 cautions given and two cars were defected.

Superintendent Michael Murphy said the Operation was aimed at conducting high profile and mobile RBTs to remove impaired drivers from the road and remind the community of road safety.

'It is a pleasing result to see the low rate of detection of alcohol and drug affected drivers," Supt Murphy said.

"The message appears to be getting through to the community of the dangers associated with impaired driving and with these factors removed the reduced risk of trauma and harm on our roads.

"These high visibility operations are an excellent opportunity for engagement with the community to provide education on safe road use such as child restraints, seat belts, fatigue and road worthy vehicles".
