Operation Cobalt - Alice Springs

Police

Alice Springs Police Property Crime Reduction Unit has arrested 11 offenders for outstanding crimes as part of Operation Cobalt.

A joint operation by Property Crime Reduction Unit and Regional Investigations members targeted outstanding offenders nominated through forensic evidence such as DNA or finger prints.

Acting Sergeant Janelle Snigg said the clear up of 11 outstanding offenders proved the operation a success as these persons were directly responsible for property related offending.

'These persons had been directly identified through the collection of forensic evidence and in many cases had been evading Police since the offence had been committed, said A/Sgt Snigg

'There was only a small number of suspects which fell into this category but it is important to reinforce to victims that Police will continue to pursue these persons after forensic results have been obtained".

The capacity of the Property Crime Reduction unit to identify suspects has been greatly enhanced by the attachment of a full time Scene of Crime Officer to the unit in recent months to assist with the examination of scenes.
