NT POLICE HOST THE ANNUAL POLICE COMMISSIONERS CONFERENCE

Commissioners from Australasia and the South West Pacific Region are making their way to the Top End for the Annual Police Commissioners Conference 2009.

The Northern Territory Police are the hosts of this years Commissioners Conference entitled 'Leading and Managing Change in Policing - Serious and Organised Crime.'

Commissioner of Police, Mr Paul White APM, said he was pleased that NT Police would have the opportunity to showcase themselves and Darwin when the conference launches from the 27 - 30 April.

"We have a dedicated committee and the members have been working towards this conference to ensure we provide a unique forum allowing Commissioners the opportunity to consider, discuss and debate the most critical and thought provoking issues confronting modern policing organisations.

"This conference also provides a great opportunity for Darwin and the NT, including a chance to showcase what this unique Territory has to offer," he said.

A high quality agenda has been developed and prominent key note speakers include Sir Hugh Stephen Orde OBE, Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Dr Timothy Turner, Supervisory Special Agent (retired) at the Leadership Development Institute of the FBI Academy, Quantico, USA and Mr Solomon 'Sol' Trujillo Chief Executive Officer of Telstra Corporation Limited.

Topics including policing outlaw motorcycle gangs, alcohol issues, unsolved homicide and criminal property confiscation, will be discussed at this years conference.

The Police Commissioners Conference Australasia and South-West Pacific Region is held in a different jurisdiction each year and has not be held in Darwin since 1999.
